Impersonation of the deceasedSection 13 of the Police and Justice Act 2006 provided the General Register Office with the power to supply deceased person information to the police, Serious and Organised Crime Agency, special police forces, and any other bodies specified in regulations, for the purposes of prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of offences. This will help the police and other organisations to identify attempts by criminals to utilise the personal details of those who have recently died to perpetrate fraud, and through this data sharing help to combat impersonation of deceased fraud and other related offences. The scheme has commenced and data is being supplied to carefully vetted organisations to tackle fraud. |
